The MAC Maleficent Collection Conjures Crimson Kisses and Chiseled Cheeks - Makeup and Beauty Blog
Sorcery is a brutal business. Between the handsome princes hell bent on thwarting your dastardly plans and the difficulty in procuring eye of newt and other essential ingredients, there'south the whole time-consuming nature of conjuring and the plotting of evil deeds.
A successful villainess doesn't even take fourth dimension to bear on upward her lips these days, what with all the demand for demon summonings and whatnot.
Can y'all imagine the mighty Maleficent, star of Disney's upcoming movie and MAC'south latest collaboration, pausing in the middle of a expletive to catch a lip brush to reapply her crimson lipstick?
Delight. It makes perfect sense that MAC, in working with the nighttime sorceress herself, would populate the new MAC Maleficent drove with lip products that terminal a supernaturally long time.
I'chiliad no sorceress, patently (well, not notwithstanding, but who knows what the future holds!?), but I've been wearing the True Love's Osculation Lipstick, Anthurium Pro Longwear Lipglass and Osculation Me Quick Lip Pencil from the release this week, and all of them last a solid half-dozen-7 hours — more than enough time to bandage a fireball spell, cook a big batch of witch's mash and/or affright some local villagers.
Of the 14-pieces in the release, many of which are re-promotes from the MAC permanent line, the lip products conjure up some seriously stunning red lip magic for me. Total musts for crimson lip lovers.
In Disney'south Maleficent, which comes out this summer, Angelina Jolie plays the allegedly devilish Disney sorceress of Sleeping Beauty fame, who may or may non take been the villainess she was once portrayed to be. The film chronicles Maleficent's "true" rise to ability.
Yep, MAC totally has a thing for the bad gals (remember Venomous Villains?).
The Maleficent collection has a vastly different colour story than the Maleficent portion of Venomous Villains did. Where VV's cool-toned purples, blues and greens drew upon Maleficent'due south pare and wardrobe from Disney's original Sleeping Beauty, the new collection evokes Maleficent'due south evil elegance, with bold neutrals for eyes and cheeks and, of course, that intense ruby-red lip.
In the Maleficent movie posters I've seen, Angie has a whole scary/cool thing going on — super contoured cheeks, bold red lips, striking eyes in neutral tones. No green skin similar the original Disney grapheme, but more of a chilling gray…
She kind of looks like a witchy version of ane of Robert Palmer'due south Addicted to Love video girls from the '80s, which I call up is pretty damn fabulous!
With the exception of the grayish peel (really, though, would ya want that, anyways?), the look could be recreated with the fourteen products in the MAC Maleficent collection — if yous wanted to, that is.
Simply here's the kicker that volition probably peeve more a few MAC fans: most of the pieces are re-promotes with limited edition packaging, and MAC does charge a little bit more for them.
Yep, you're by and large paying for the packaging here, unless you lot don't take some of these products.
And I certain do like the packaging! Similar that logo, which looks like black wings, and the wings look similar crows (Maleficent has a affair for corvids), which too form the shape of the letter "M."
It's on the primary pieces — the quad, lip products, the cheek/face powder and the polishes.
I mean, information technology's a bummer that MAC didn't go with completely new colors for the release — information technology seems like a missed opportunity — but that said, I actually do like many of these products and accept for years.
On the bright side, at that place are several beautiful, useful pieces in this launch that i could easily wear every 24-hour interval.
First, the items that are new and aren't re-promotes, similar True Love's Kiss Lipstick ($17.l), which has MAC's Amplified formula.
Intensely red and bright Truthful Dear's Osculation Lipstick looks a little like MAC Dubonnet, merely brighter, and equally I mentioned, it lasts a good long while. Incredibly smoothen and intensely pigmented, I think it's a beautiful archetype red.
And while True Love's Kiss easily holds its ain past itself, it rises to even greater ability with Anthurium Pro Longwear Lipglass ($22) on top.
The two get together like reddish lips and carnal thoughts.
Anthurium feels pretty sticky, only information technology'southward also long-lasting, shine and doesn't budge once it'south on.
And and then there'southward the Beauty Powder in Natural ($30), another 1 of the completely new pieces in the launch. A soft peachy pink with a barely-there sheen, it subtly reflects the light.
At first, I was afraid it would go chalky on me (I'm an NC42), but it doesn't, which was a prissy surprise.
Easy to blend, information technology also looks natural on the skin. I use information technology to add a subtle highlight to my upper cheekbones, down the span of my olfactory organ, along my forehead basic and my cupid's bow, and I think information technology complements the Sculpting Powder in Sculpt from the collection ($23 — 1 of the repromotes), which I think of equally a total goof-proof contouring shade.
Sculpt blends and so easily that information technology makes carving out severe cheeks and everyday contouring equally like shooting fish in a barrel.
You can also vesture information technology layered on top of Bright Forecast Prep + Prime Highlighter ($25, and yup, another re-promote, simply it'south a swell i!). In these pics, I'm wearing that combo between my brows and in the heart of my brow for a spotlight effect.
Uninvited, the neutral nude Nail Lacquer, is the last of the new pieces in the launch. I haven't tried it on even so, just my showtime impression? Eh, it looks like a fairly standard nude beige. A piffling uninspiring.
As for the quad…
While the Eyeshadow X 4 quad in Maleficent ($44) may be comprised of re-promoted colors, information technology does highlight some seriously standout products from the permanent line.
3 of them are blockbuster greatest hits — matte black Carbon (fab for lining optics and smokey looks), cool satin chocolate-brown Concrete (I wear this in my brows) and shimmery gold Goldmine. The fourth shade, Basis Brown, was a discontinued matte dark brown from the permanent line.
Ground Dark-brown deserved resurrection here because it blends and buffs out beautifully, and it's neither too scarlet nor orange.
Give information technology a endeavour in the pucker one of these days in a look with chocolate-brown smokey eyes! Seriously, though, I could hands accomplish for this quad near every single day and use at least i of the colors, but then, I'yard kind of a ho for neutrals, LOL!
I think you may accept to love neutrals to really be into this quad…
As for the 36 Lash false lashes in the release, they're a long-time fave of mine, but I actually haven't worn them in a while. Wearing them for these pics this week reminded me how much I like them.
Considering they have longer lashes at the outer corners, you get this beautiful winged-out look. They look hella long and heavy but feel surprisingly light and comfortable. Plus, they're piece of cake to utilize (Note to self: I need to give this bad boy the Unsung Heroes treatment).
Yes, almost of the pieces in Maleficent are re-promotes and, yes, you'll be paying a piffling more for the express edition packaging, but many of these pieces are Nonetheless worth your fourth dimension, especially if you don't have some of them and like bold neutrals and a potent profile.
The entire MAC Maleficent drove includes…
- Amplified Lipstick Truthful Dear's Buss, a clean bright cerise ($17.50)
- Pro Longwear Lipglass in Anthurium, a clean bright carmine ($22)
